Dominican Republic will sign a health protocol with Haiti

The Chancellor indicated that the Mixed Commission will meet this week in the country

SD. President Danilo Medina gave his "Okay" to the health protocol, a document that will allow the Haitian authorities to inspect the health conditions of the national poultry industry, before exporting to the neighboring country.

The Minister of Agriculture, Luis Ramon Rodriguez, upon offering the information yesterday to Diario Libre, pointed out that already it had been agreed upon and that shortly his Haitian counterpart would come to the country for the official signing of the health agreement, which he feels will help in raising the ban imposed by Haiti on the import of Dominican chickens and eggs.

It will be recalled that several weeks ago, Luis Ramon Rodriguez delivered to the Chief of State the document with the necessary recommendations.

"We are now going to have in a process of around 30 days, the largest number possible of poultry farms and processors certified, so that when the Haitian authorities come they can take back a list of Dominican poultry farms that can sell their products in Haiti," he said.

Regarding the number of national poultry farms that would benefit from the new health regulations, Rodriguez noted that some 20 certified poultry companies would be able to offer their products.

The minister said that he was hopeful that Haiti would soon lift the ban imposed last June.

Chancellor

For his part, Chancellor Carlos Morales Troncoso, said that this week the Bilateral Mixed Commission will meet in the country in order to analyze several issues, among them the ban on poultry and eggs.

Regarding the bilateral relations with Haiti, he said that they are going well, after explaining that diplomacy is handled in private and not in public, because then it would fail.
