Rains leave more than 2500 displaced persons and all the country
SANTO DOMINGO. Given the danger of landslides and flooding the Center of Emergency Operations (COE) maintained yesterday the alert levels in 12 provinces. This included a red alert in the National District and the province of Santo Domingo.

The rains resulted yesterday in 2309 persons displaced to the houses of family and friends, and another 248 and official shelters. The latter were specifically in the barrio of La Barquita, in East Santo Domingo, in addition there are three isolated communities, and 46 aqueducts are out of service and one hospital is affected.

The COE reported their removal of 150 persons in North La Barquita, and in Bayaguana the communities of El Talao and Batey Chirino continue to be affected by the flooding of the Yabacoa River and in Los Girasoles, and the National District, the Jacinto Mañon Hospital suffered flooding.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Public Works reported the reopening of the road to the community of El Rosario in Azua, which also affected Los Jovillos, Los Morenos, Pueblo Viejo, Ansonia and Las Barias.

The National Meteorological Office (Onamet) maintained its warnings for urban flooding in San Pedro de Macoris, La Romana, La Altagracia, El Seibo, Hato Mayor, Maria Trinidad Sanchez, Monte Plata, Santiago, Duarte, San Jose de Ocoa and Azua. In the meantime the COE assigned a yellow alert to the provinces of sun Pedro de Macoris and Monte Plata; put on green alert are Sanchez Ramirez, La Vega, Puerto Plata, Ocoa, Duarte, Hato Mayor, El Seibo and Azua.

Fewer rain showers

Onamet forecasted for today "a reduction in the rains, due to the distancing of the cloud cover associated with hurricane Cristobal, with dispersed showers of short duration in the afternoon." In addition they reported that they continued to follow a tropical wave located to the east of the Lesser Antilles, and that still as of yesterday it presented near zero probability of turning into a tropical cyclone.
