Interference from Haiti affects for provinces
SANTO DOMINGO. The interference of telephone frequencies from Haiti are affecting the provinces of Pedernales, Elias Piña, Dajabon and Montecristi, and are attributed to a poor calibration or poor management of the spectrum by some of the companies in the neighboring country.

The information was released by Eduardo Valcacer, the vice president of the Orange telephone company, who attended, together with representatives of other phone companies, a meeting called by the Permanent Commission of Transportation and Telecommunications of the Senate, which is studying the feasibility of approving a resolution which proposes the investigation of this problem.

The Orange executive greeted the initiative by the Senators to deal with finding a way out of this situation.

He explained that for some time all of the Dominican companies have tried to communicate with the Haitian telephone service providers, but it has not been possible.

He revealed that the interferences have caused "important economic losses" to the Dominican telephone companies, that have to take on the cost of roaming, due to the fact that there cell phone users experience interference within the Dominican territory and have to use this roaming service in order to communicate.

He said that the clients do not recognize the service, and that the telephone companies have to assume these costs.

He assured reporters that the service providers have their equipment installed and calibrated in the correct manner and that the interferences are not the result of failures by the Dominican companies.

He said that what has to be done is some work between the Dominican regulators and the Haitians with the participation of the telecommunications service providers from both countries. The president of the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (Indotel), Gedeon Santos, did not attend the meeting, so that Senator Adriano Sanchez Roa, reminded him that he has to comply with his constitutional obligations, and that he will be invited again the next week.

The Permanent Commission on Transportation and Telecommunications of the Senate is analyzing a legislative resolution that seeks to investigate the telephone, radio and other interferences from Haiti in the country. They will invite representatives of radio and television stations.
