The JCE has canceled nearly 90,000 cédulas

SANTO DOMINGO. The Central Electoral Board (J CE) has canceled over the last 2 years, nearly 90,000 personal identification and voter registration cédulas, after discovering irregularities, false information or because of the death of the card holders.
Statistics from the JCE indicate that during the sifting carried out starting with the voter registration rolls used in the elections of 2012, as of 12 December of this year 86,962 cédulas have been canceled or invalidated for diverse causes, including identity theft and persons who tried to obtain a cédula on more than one occasion.
According to the registers, the majority of the cancellations, 76,450, have come about through the deaths of citizens, followed by another 5904 who provided irregular information.
Some 2335 cédulas were invalidated because of identity theft; 1368 because of false information and 620 because the persons tried to obtain more than one cédula.
In addition another 178 were eliminated by the election agency because of identity theft of a deceased person; 56 because they belong to persons who renounced their Dominican nationality and 51 because a duplicity in birth registrations was discovered.
The JCE numbers also indicate that the voter registration rolls are composed of 7,052,087 electors of which 3,583,321 are women and 3,468,766 our men.
