PLD asks JCE to revise resolution which orders simultaneous transmission of results
SD. Due to the danger which they feel is implied by the simultaneous transmission of the elections results, the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) requested that the president of the Central Electoral Board(JCE), Roberto Rosario, that the Plenary of the Board revise the resolution that orders the measure, with the idea of avoiding "anything that might strain" the election process.

Yesterday a commission of the Political Committee and from the Campaign Command of the PLD visited the headquarters of the JCE and delivered a letter in which they laid out their petition.

The commission was made up of César Pina Toribio, Reinaldo Pared Pérez, Franklin Almeyda Rancier, Temístocles Montás, Danilo Díaz and Fernando Fernández. "Your recent statements (those by Roberto Rosario) that have produced a common worry according to what we have received from different sources, commentaries and editorials in the press, make a revision of the initial decision obligatory, to the effect that the transmissions referred to are surrounded by the maximum security to safeguard their authenticity," says the letter signed by Pina Toribio.

In the letter, the PLD cites the PRD presidential candidate , Mejia, recalling that in his letter he suggested to the JCE president that "the simultaneous information of the acts be restricted to those that should receive them due to institutional reasons and because of their direct responsibility and involvement in the election process."

Pina Toribio recalled that since the initiative of simultaneous transmissions was suggested, the PLD had its reservations because it seemed a little dangerous that the measure was adopted, but they accepted the proposal by Rosario due to the confidence he showed.

He concluded by saying that "outside of the fears what we do not want is that under any circumstance the environment that should exist at the moment in which the Central Electoral Board and the local Election Boards begin to send in the information should become strained."

He said that the PLD did not mistrust the media and that it supports the revision of the measure because the PLD with its petition contributes to providing greater security to all of the actors for the accuracy of the information that is offered.

Plenary will deal with the issue

The president of the JCE, Roberto Rosario, said yesterday that the Plenary of the institution should deal with the issue of the transmission of the election results to the media and to the political parties. He denied that he had received pressure to change his position.

In respect to this, the member of the JCE, Rosario Graciano, said that if the issue as to avoid the simultaneous transmission of the acts were placed on the agenda of the Plenary, she would support the proposal. She said she felt that the Board should be protected from any situation that puts the information that should be handled by the institution in danger.

In the meantime, Eddy Olivares maintains his radical negative to any modification of the regulation that provides for the simultaneous transmission.
