Medical College complains of lawsuits

SD. The members of the executive committee of the Dominican Medical College (CMD) reacted indignantly to the lawsuits that surgeons and other specialists in the area of surgeries are constantly being subjected to.

With obvious annoyance, the CMD president, Dr. Amarilis Herrera, said that the elevated index of lawsuits that her colleagues are being served worry her. She cited three cases in recent days, such as that of Dr. Franklin Hasbun, sentenced to one year in jail for involuntary homicide against a patient.

He said that a good part of the lawsuits are pushed by lawyers who have economic motivations that have found echoes in the media and among reporters.

Herrera warned that in the cases in which the court dismisses the accusations of medical negligence, the CMD will file a counter lawsuit against the plaintiffs. The doctor pointed out that the situation causes serious moral, family and economic damage to the persons affected.
