GOLD AND SILVER: Felix Sanchez enters among the elite of Olympic medalists

SD. Felix Sanchez and Luguelin Santos made Dominican sports history yesterday afternoon. Sanchez, who will be 35 on 30 August, became the oldest athlete in history to win the gold medal in the 400 meter hurdles. He did this in the Olympic Games of London, with the same time (45:63) with which he gave the country its first gold medal at this level in 2004, in the Athens Olympic Games, when he was at the height of his career.
Santos, barely 18, became the youngest Dominican Olympic medalist, when he earned the silver medal in the 400 meter race.
With these two medals, the first ones achieved in the present edition of the world competition, the Dominican Republic climbed to the 33rd position in the medal standings in a competition with includes 204 countries. Both races garnered huge attention all over the country. P30,34
