Puello and Mella point out obstacles to PRD dialogue
SD. Doctors Jose Joaquin Puello and Cesar Mella cleared up yesterday what the first obstacle they found in the mediation process that they undertook together with commentator Homero Figueroa in order to reach an agreement between Miguel Vargas and Hipolito Mejia, was a statement made last Thursday by the former President Mejia saying that he was willing to enter a dialogue but that he would not talk to the president of the PRD.

Puello revealed that last Wednesday they were received in the offices of the Archbishop of Santo Domingo by Nicolas de Jesus Cardinal Lopez Rodriguez who showed a lot of interest in this effort. He said that in that meeting Figueroa and his brother Pedro, Dr. Mella, himself, and Luis Abinader, the former running mate of Mejia, were present.

He said that after this important and auspicious meeting, on Thursday he talked with Miguel Vargas through Deputy Victor Gomez Casanova. He received as an answer that Vargas that as soon as he studied the document he would meet with them.

Puello revealed that they again communicated on Friday with the PRD president, on which occasion in which he expressed his willingness to meet last Monday, after he had begun the meeting of the National Executive Committee, which was interrupted by some violent clashes.
