COE issues a green alert for four provinces

SANTO DOMINGO. The Center for Emergency Operations (COE) declared a green alert for four provinces in the country due to the rains that are falling on them as a result of a low pressure trough.
The provinces on alert are Monsignor Nouel, San Pedro de Macoris, Hato Mayor and El Seibo. For the residents in high-risk areas of these provinces, such as those living close to rivers and streams, the COE is calling on them to take the necessary precautionary measures and to be alert to the recommendations of the local relief agencies.
"The people should avoid trying to cross rivers and streams which are carrying large volumes of water," warned the bulletin from the agency which was issued yesterday.
According to the National Meteorological Office (Onamet), the recent rains are due to the influence of a low pressure trough over the country and the dominant winds from the East.
These two meteorological elements maintain favorable conditions for the occurrence of rain showers, thunder and lightning and isolated wind gusts in the afternoon and evening today in the North, Northeast, Southeast, Southwest and the Central Mountains. Santo Domingo and its environs will be partially cloudy with scattered showers and thunder during the afternoon. The National District forecast is an increase of cloudiness in the afternoon with the possibility of rain showers and thunder and lightning.
