Rangel censures United States attack on Dominican Republic
SANTO DOMINGO. For the United States Congressman Charles Rangel (D-NY), it is not fair for the United States to criticize the immigration policy of the Dominican Republic when they have not approved an immigration reform and in the meantime maintain 14 million undocumented persons and continue with the massive deportations.

"I believe that it is unfair on the part of the United States authorities to criticize the actions on their immigration policy by the Dominican Republic because we have 14 million citizens, poorly counted, in an illegal and undocumented situation," he stated.

Rangel, a member of the House of Representatives from New York, said he hoped that the governments of the Dominican Republic and Haiti do not do what the government of the United States is doing with its deportations and that both countries reach an agreement in order to achieve a compatible solution to the immigration issue," Rangel noted.

At 1:30 in the afternoon, President Danilo Medina received in his office the United States legislator with whom he talked about the Dominican-Haitian relations and other issues.

Rangel reported that he dealt with international issues, the economy, Haiti and Venezuela. He indicated that the conversations that are being carried out by the Dominican and Haitian commissions have achieved progress. He made it clear that they also talked about the immigration issues that go beyond other issues of common interest.

In the Congress

The Senate president, Reinaldo Pared Perez, and several other senators received yesterday a visit by Charles Rangel and talked about different items of interest.

Rangel indicated that during his years as a representative he has dedicated himself to improving the lives of the citizens of the United States and the Dominicans that live in that country.
