JCE starts delivery of new ID card on Monday, 21 April
SD. Starting on Monday 21 April the seven million people who should acquire the new "cédula"-the personal identification and voter registration card-can start going to the 147 centers for ‘cedulas' and 15 mobile offices to get their document. Overseas, they should wait two months.

This was reported yesterday by the president of the Central Electoral Board (JCE), Roberto Rosario, who recalled that the emission of the card and the first replacement is free, and that the document will be valid for 10 years.

He explained that when a person goes to a center for the issuing of the new ‘cédula', he should take a photocopy of his birth certificate, or all of the information of his birth registration in order to facilitate the search in the system.

In order to specify the blood type, the person should present a note issued from a blood bank registered with the Ministry of Public Health. If there is a change in civil status, he should take a copy of his marriage certificate, and in the case of his occupation, a copy of a document that provides this data.

During this week, the personnel from the JCE and their families will get their new cards during a sort of trial run. Yesterday they began with the president of the institution and the magistrate Cesar Feliz. Last Monday, President Danilo Medina was the first to receive the new ‘cédula'.

Rosario reiterated that the new document is safe and contains several mechanisms for verifying its authenticity.
