Air Force installs radar in Pedernales
SANTO DOMINGO. The commanding general of the Dominican Republic Air Force (FARD) reported the installation of a mobile radar station in Pedernales with the idea of detecting the entry into Dominican airspace of airplanes belonging to drug traffickers and others who try to enter in an illegal manner.

Major General Ramon Hernandez Hernandez revealed that when they finish with the installation of the "C-3", as the radar is called, they will place others with greater range and power in the National District, San Cristobal, the East as well as Pedernales.

These radars will be fixed and provide the country with greater control of its airspace.

On the other hand, Hernandez Hernandez said that at the present time they are working on entering the ISO 9001 standards as a way to get up to date with technology. The military commander added that with the process that has begun they hope to get the certification by the month of June.

He said that all of the personnel of the FARD has been working three months and the different commands charged with achieving this standard are doing it together so as to achieve the optimum results.

He explained that he has the hope that before the month of June they finish the fine tuning and the details that they are missing and therefore finish the process successfully. He pointed out that the Air Force is an institution which is trying to become more professional each day in order to provide a good service to the people and the Dominican Republic as a nation.

The commanding general of the FARD said that the ISO 9001 benefits the Air Force because they have the necessary pilots, a good maintenance team, radars and "it will provide us with a greater operational security regarding the aircraft, and also at the level of the hospital and the other dependencies we have."

He indicated that the ISO 9001 certification increases the quality of the services, and he added that the Air Force continues with the struggle and the watch on the airspace of the Dominican Republic, which he said has permitted the country to have zero drug trails (by airplanes).
