Reinaldo Pared Perez holds the PRM responsible for violence

The secretary general of the PLD warned that city Council members could "play dirty tricks"

SANTO DOMINGO. The Secretary general of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), Reinaldo Pared Perez, yesterday held a group that is headed by former President Hipolito Mejia and Luis Abinader, of the so-called Majority Revolutionary Party (PRM), responsible for the incidence of violence which might occur during the election leadership positions in the municipalities and the municipal districts.

Nevertheless, Pared Perez, who is also the Senate president, said that this group has the right to take this decision. "If this is the position of this group, inside the PRD, because the Majority Revolutionary Party does not yet exist, they will be the persons responsible for any violent act that could happen in one of the city councils throughout the country," he stressed. He recalled that this has been a tradition that has been implemented during decades.

He stressed that at times city Council members plan "dirty tricks" against the Mayors.

The PRM president, Andres Bautista, said last Monday that the "pact for municipalities" no longer makes any sense, and he believes that is the leadership groups should be elected by the majority and not by those who are pointed out by the mayors.

DGA and textbooks

In another vein, Pared Perez defended the right of the General Director of Customs (DGA) to investigate irregularities committed by courier companies. In addition, he said that the Ministry of Education should take measures to avoid the unreasonable cost of textbooks.
