The PRD will ask for the rejection of the name of the PRM because it violates the Electoral Law
SANTO DOMINGO. The nascent Majority Revolutionary Party (PRM) will face today its first trial by fire as it tries to get the authorization to use this name instead of the Dominican Social Alliance (ASD).

The appointment is at 10 AM at the Central Electoral Board (JCE) where there will be a hearing in which the delegates of the parties will offer their points of view regarding the name, the colors, and the symbol of this organization.

The Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD) will request the rejection of the name, logo, flag and colors of the PRM, arguing that these are illegal and unconstitutional, besides which they affect the acquired rights of the PRD party.

Article 42, paragraph C, of the Electoral Law indicates that the "evidence of the name or slogan of the party, which they will summarize as much as possible the tendencies that motivate their founders, without including names or words allusive to persons or prefixes that indicate attitudes either for or against practices, systems or regimes, present or past, national or international, nor be susceptible to produce confusion among those of other parties."

The PRD will request the Plenary of the JCE to urgently decide on this rejection, arguing that with the promotion of this symbology they (PRM) are doing harm to their party.

Representing the PRD will be the Sec. general, Junior Santos; the political delegate, José Miguel Vasquez; the director of communications, Victor Gomez Casanova; Eduardo Jorge Prats; and the legal director, Salim Ibarra.

Reelection and the statutes

The PRM is in the process of writing its new statutes, since those that they sent to the JCE in the files in which they requested the name change, last 16 July, are the same as the ASD, according to explanations yesterday by the political delegate of this party, Pastor Marte Piantini, who delivered it. "The report of the commission of electoral boards and of the political parties established that the name is correct and is legal with respect to the Elect oral Law and its article 42 paragraphs C and the," stressed Marte.

The PRM president, Andres Bautista, explained that the commission that is working on the statutes of this party will write them in accordance with the Dominican Constitution, which only prohibits the reelection of the President two consecutive terms, but not that of deputies and mayors.
