Goodbye to the Maestro Yaqui Nuñez del Risco
SD. El Soberano del Pueblo (the People's Sovereign), the Maestro Yaqui Nuñez del Risco quieted the word yesterday at 3:30 p.m. in the afternoon.

Starting today at 11:00 a.m. his remains will be on view at the Blandino Funeral Home on Abraham Lincoln, and he will be buried tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. at the Puerta del Cielo Cemetery.

As the owner of a style of presentation on television immersed in culture, Yaqui was the master of a school where numerous figures of contemporary Dominican journalism received their training.

A poet, composer, professor and publicist, he left among his legacy, more than a single phrase - "Cultura con sabrosura -, more than the name of a group -"Las Chicas del Can -, or a song - "Compañera"-, a road through which one will always have to return, characterized by good taste and by the need to appeal to culture each time ethical values are in danger.

After 2076 days of silence, - since that 1 December 2008 - at last, Yaqui Nuñez del Risco can speak forever.

Being essentially a man of the 20th century, he left by way of his legacy a way of projecting the knowledge and richness of the Dominican, without sounding affected or being pedantic. To achieve this marvelous balance was a gift which allowed them to earn the affection of the people and the respect of all the social strata of the Dominican Republic.

Yaqui was not the "Gran Soberano" because of the stinginess of some. Because this also has to be said, the man who exploded the social networks this Monday with messages of love and appreciation towards his existence during the last 75 years, also suffered from slander and vilification and envy. He was also the object of a lampoon written back in the 80s in which he was accused of many things.

What is important is that with the departure of Yaqui a cycle of Dominican television, which belonged to such figures as Freddy Beras-Goico, Rafael Corporan de los Santos, Luisito Marti and others, is now closed.

He leaves his stamp, his influences, his essence, in journalists and producers such as Zoila Luna, Jatna Tavarez, Tania Báez, Socorro Castellanos, Huchi Lora, Nuria Piera, Iván Ruiz, Yuli Carlo, José Jáquez, Jochy Santos and Domingo Bautista, among others. And therefore he helped create the best of Dominican radio and television.

In the social networks

"God have mercy on his life leading him to eternal rest... I will never forget your "vote of confidence" at Milly, Jocelyn and Los Vecinos; "R.I.P. Yaqui" said the first, Milly Quezada, on Twitter. "Yaqui is dead?... Never, his talent is immortal," tweeted journalist Americo Celado, who also added one of the phrases made famous by Jackie: "I improvise the words, but never the ideas." "A day that I never wanted to arrive... Yaqui's death," was the expression by Nuria Piera. "The most illustrated voice of Dominican television has been turned off: Yaqui Nuñez del Risco has died," said Huchi Lora. In the meantime, from Miami the Dominican journalist on Univision, Tony Dandrades tweeted: "regretting the death of my model to follow in the media! Yaqui Nuñez del Risco."

According to Trendinalia RD, the Tweet with the most repercussions was that by Roberto Cavada: "Maestro Yaqui Nuñez del Risco, excellence in a word, has left us. Thank you for everything, these to your soul. Hugs to your children and Susana Silfa."

Colleagues and friends of Jackie express their condolences

José A. Rodriguez

"All my life I have been thankful to Jackie, he was my godfather in television during the 80s and he fought so that I could enter the Show de Mediodia, a gets those who were opposed, because they considered us communists."

Nuria Piera

"He was a television man, the greatest in creativity, in the matter to present something, he created a very particular style that all of us tried to imitate. He was a genius, an excellent friend, I had the opportunity to share with him."

Manolo Quiroz

"His voice had been quieted,, but we always had the hope that at some time he would react. Yaqui serve this channel and other media as a model of what it is to be a journalist and commentator."

Zoila Luna: "I was the student he elected to sculpt."

SD. The television host defined herself as his pupil. "If I learn something from Jackie it was that knowledge is to be shared, and this was exactly what he always did. A human being of his capacity and instinct second only to his talent. For me he was the most complete journalist of the Dominican Republic and one of the 10 most competent in all of Latin America."

She added that she met Jackie Nuñez when she went to interview him. "There was a problem that they were usurping the slogan of the Shell del Mediodia in New York, I worked on Santo Domingo Invita, and I went to interview him because of this. That is how we met, and later as we were leaving the United Hearts Foundation I met Freddy Beras, and at this time the so-called "war of the money" occurred and I received a call from Jackie telling me that I was the new host of the Show del Mediodia without even auditioning me."

She said that she had the luck and the privilege of being the one that he selected to be his pupil. "I was the student the Jackie chose to sculpt. My greatest pleasure with him, was that on one occasion they asked him what was his greatest contribution to communications and the media and he answered that his greatest contribution was Zoila Luna... I would never have enough to pay him for this.. For his love. I called him father and he is my papa. I still not been able to process his death... He was the best actor of the spoken word in Latin America."

Miguel Vargas Maldonado, president of the Dominican Revolutionary Party

The political leader wrote on his Twitter account: "All the Dominican people are in mourning. The PRD family expresses its most sincere condolences for the death of our beloved Yaqui Nuñez del Risco EPD."

Pedro Nuñez, Julie Carlo and Daniel Diaz talk about him

In the midst of their sorrow, his brother, Pedro Nuñez del Risco, said that his life was marked by the passage of Yaqui and he was is inspiration. "Like many, I think he was a great guide, a person of extraordinary capacity. He was a father for me because he was three years older, and since I was in the University I knew how to assess his family values, he helped everyone, I feel a lot of gratitude," he said.

He stressed that Yaqui Nuñez left a great legacy to the country. "Yaqui is addressed, he didn't deserve to keep living in those conditions because his life was always the use of words, and to do good for popular arts, in favor of the best interests of the country"

Julie and Daniel

Julie Carlo and Daniel Diaz Alejo, intimate companions of Nuñez del Risco on the Show del Mediodia, stressed his qualities. "He represented the best exponent of the spoken word in front of a television camera, it seems that there were moments and circumstances that occurred so that he was the protagonist. To speak of his qualities it is obligatory to mention the correct use of the word, personally we can speak of a person who was tireless in the search for what is best," said Julie Carlo.

Danilo Diaz Alejo thanked him for his teaching. "Nuñez as I told him so many times, thanks for having been such an important part of my life...," He said on Twitter.

Milagros German

"His loss is very deeply felt, who saw in the great master of the word, the great master of reasoned improvisation. I believe he has been a guide and a great master. For a long time he has been deprived of the possibility of communicating and I understand that with his death his physical body is at rest."

Anthony Perez

"The word was his life, and his life was the word. There's no reason to cry, because as the apostle of Cuban independence, José Martí, would say: "death is a victory, and when you are lived well the casket is a triumphal vehicle." Maestro, until we meet again, those of us that survive a little more, will always pronounce your name with pride and respect."
