The Council of Ministers works on the 2015 Budget today
SANTO DOMINGO. President Danilo Medina and his officials will discuss today the general state budget for next year during a session of the Council of Ministers at the seat of government.

The Administrative Minister of the Presidency, José Ramon Peralta, reported that the meeting will be at 10:00 in the morning and the Council of Government Hall.

The official said that they will finish the work on the project which will be sent to the National Congress within the time that is established by the Constitution, which is in September or at the beginning of October.

He reported that for more than a month President Danilo Medina has been working on the budget with meetings of the different sectors.

He mentioned that there will be an increase of income, but the increase is practically committed into fundamental items which are the 4% for education and the payment of debt service.

He indicated that for 2015 there will be between 10 and 11 billion pesos more just for the educational sector and that in order to pay down the debt they will have to add an additional 20 billion pesos.

He explained that this was due to the fact that the gross domestic product is growing and debt service has increased.

"President Medina wanted the deficit to be maintained at low levels, the first time in the administrations of the last 20 years, when what is set forth as a deficit, is fulfilled."

He recalled that the deficit was reduced by nearly 4% from 2012 to 2013, something which no government in any part of the world has ever done, he said.

He indicated also that they complied with the goal of a deficit of 2.8% for 2013 to 2014 and that the projections are that for next year it will be the same or less. He said that this can only be achieved through fiscal discipline.

The official stated that the majority of the institutions will have to operate with the 2014 budget because it is a government decision that they not spend more than what is proper.

Peralta said that the general amount of the budget for 2015 will be determined during the meeting today of the Council of Ministers.
