PRD and PRM provokes stalemate in FEDOMU elections
SANTO DOMINGO. The contradictions over which the Dominican Revolutionary (PRD) and Modern Revolutionary people aren't M) parties are fighting, impeded yesterday the celebration of in election assembly by the Dominican Federation of municipalities (FEDOMU), which is postponed without a date, because of the lack of a consensus on the members of a unified ballots.

The situation is due to the fact that the President of the PRD, Miguel Vargas Maldonado, is supposed to mayors that were elected on his parties ticket and are now members of the PRM be included in the single ballots for the new authorities of the FEDOMU. In this context the proposed in a letter sent to the President of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), Leonel Fernandez, the 11 city Council members of the Pete RD should make up a single ballots, which was rejected by the Electoral Commission because it was not complete and did not comply statute Terry formalities.

This opposition resulted in that before the beginning of the assembly a negotiation process between the commissions of the different parties was begun, but without obtaining any positive results.

With respect to this, the Mayor of East Santo Domingo, Juan de los Santos, and the President of the FEDOMU, argued that the stalemate made an agreement to back as single ballot which included six members of the PRM impossible. The PRM mayors that were included in the unified ballot are: Remberto Cruz (Moca), Luis Nelson Rosario (Pimentel), Hermes Rodriguez (Tenares), Menni Cuevas (Tamayo), Robert Tavarez (Los Llanos) and Fausto de los Santos (Juan Herrera).

"The situation is that Miguel Vargas feels that these positions should belong to the PRD because the PRM does not exist. He feels that the mayors that occupy those positions should not be kept in the FEDOMU," he noted.

He said that they will continue searching for a solution to the situation and that shortly they will convene again the election assembly.

About the assembly

The XIII FEDOMU assembly began at 12: 10 PM, with invocations to the Lord so that harmony and consensus could be maintained. These virtues approached the breaking point as the points of the agenda were being dealt with.

The tactics and protests of some mayors resulted in some of the agenda items being skipped over and with the lack of the conditions to hold the election assembly, the mayor for Tamboril, Anyolino Germosen, propose the postponement.

"I ask that we postpone the assembly in order to contribute to the harmonious consensus, and that the agenda remain open; this is for the health of the municipalities," he noted. The proposal was accepted unanimously.

In their opening discussions, mayors De los Santos as well as Victor de Aza argued for the political actors to put aside their particular interests.

They both agreed in indicating that creating a division in the FEDOMU does nothing more than weaken the road already traveled and the stability they have achieved in the 14 years since its foundation.

"Let us not damage a fundamental instrument of the municipalities where the coexistence of actors of the different political parties takes place," said De Aza.
