Unrestricted drinking starting 10 December
SANTO DOMINGO. The Minister of Interior and Police, José Ramon Fadul, announced the provisional removal of the restrictions on the hours for the sale of alcoholic beverages starting from next 10 December until 8 January 2015.

Fadul explained that the disposition was agreed upon in meetings held in the MIP, with the aim that the bar owners, discotheques and restaurants of the country as well as the orchestras and musical groups can take advantage of the Christmas holidays.

He referred to the fact that Decree 308 - 06 prohibits the sale of alcohol starting at 12:00 midnight from Sunday night until Thursday and after 2:00 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Nonetheless, he explained that for motives of the end of the year festivities "we arrived at an agreement to free up the restrictions of closing hours in the bars, discotheques, restaurants and other similar businesses, starting on 10 December of this year until 8 January 2015 with the purpose of allowing them to effectively offer their services and take advantage of these Christmas holidays.

Fadul made it clear that the MIP will increase the monitoring in the businesses in order to prevent and avoid actions which go against the safety of the citizens and public order. In this same order, he warned that they will not permit the entry into these establishments of persons with firearms or of minors.
