Venezuela announces plans in favor of the poor
HERMANAS MIRABAL. The ambassador of the Bolivian Republic of Venezuela in this country, Alberto Castillar, reported that starting from Petrocaribe they are developing a plan against poverty that affects the countries that form part of this agreement, called Plan Hugo Chavez, in honor of the former President of that country.

"For the Dominican Republic we have designed the Hugo Chavez Plan, which consists of using resources from PetroCaribe. We are going to support everything that has to do with the fight against hunger, against misery and against poverty," said the diplomat.

In a like manner the Plan will be carried to the other countries in the region that form a part of the oil agreement.

Castellar announced that with resources from Petrocaribe they will finance starting in 2015 in this country US $18 million for the next 5 years. They disburse US $3.0 million every 12 months. These funds will be dedicated to programs which have to do with poverty and hunger.

"These resources will be invested in order to comply with the millennium goals. In 2000 the United Nations established some goals, that are to lower by half the levels of misery and poverty among the persons who suffer hunger in the world," the diplomat pointed out.

He indicated that the creation of the Hugo Chavez Plan was decided during the meeting of Ministers of the Venezuelan Government which is headed by Nicolas Maduro, and was held in Caracas last Friday, 21 November.

He said that with the name of the program they are honoring the revolutionary leader, the principal sponsor of the union of the countries of Latin America.

For this, Petrocaribe is a mechanism of assistance regarding oil created in the year 2005, and composed of the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Bahamas, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Nicaragua, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, among other countries and Venezuela.

Castellar released the information after taking part in the start of the activities in commemoration of the 54th anniversary of the murder of the Hermanas Mirabal and Rufino de la Cruz who were from Salcedo.
