The PUCMM set aside RD $363.3 million for research
SANTIAGO. Between September 2013 and August 2014, the Pontifical Catholic University Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) spent RD$363.3 million for scientific research and innovation.

One of the principal achievements in this sense was the registration of a patent for an invention, produced in the Nano-science Laboratory, under the direction of Fabrice Piazza. The patent was issued in the United States, Taiwan and in a consortium composed of 148 countries, among which is the Dominican Republic. The patent is the first granted to an educational institution from this country.

This was revealed in the memoir of this period presented by the rector, Monsignor Agripino Nunez Collado, who stressed the introduction of new programs in health, education and architecture and the incorporation of 16 new Masters and Specialist degrees.

In addition, they have signed 23 agreements of collaboration with higher education institutions from Spain, France, the United States, Puerto Rico, Martinique, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Canada and the Dominican Republic.

The rector also cited the Strategy of Accompaniment for the Training of Teachers PUC MM -INAFOCAM. "This project is sponsored by the government, through the National Institute of Training and Qualification of Teachers (Inafocam) and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology," he said.

He also signed an agreement with the Banco de Reservas, through which this banking institution will offer financial advice, the opportunity for internships for students studying entrepreneurship and access to financing. To this end the bank set aside a portfolio of RD $50 million.
