CAASD: 120 sectors will be without water
SANTO DOMINGO. The Aqueduct and Sewer Corporation of Santo Domingo (CAASD) announced yesterday that in order to repair a "breakdown of a great size," some 120 sectors will remain without water starting today, Thursday, until Monday, 26 January.

The situation will affect a great part of the National District and West Santo Domingo.

The break is located on Bethania Street at the corner of 8th Street in front of the building named Ana Ivelise I, of the San Benito sector in West Santo Domingo.

"More than 120 sectors will feel some level of deficiency in the water service, due to low pressure that they will experience in the distribution lines, since the supply of the Valdesia aqueduct will be reduced by 40%, which is to say by some 60 millions of gallons of water per day," explained Luis Salcedo, the deputy director of Operations.

For his part, Arismendy Santana, the deputy director of Community and Social Affairs, said that this break "in a 12 inch steel pipe, which drains a low point in the 67 inch pipe from the Valdesia system, was programmed to be repaired some months ago," but it had not been corrected in order not to affect nearly 1,000,000 persons in the last drought that affected the country during 9 ½ months.
