TC celebrates today its 3rd anniversary

The high court has issued a total of 801 decisions

SD. The Constitutional Tribunal (TC) will celebrate today in diverse activities its 3rd anniversary, where its chief justice, Milton Ray Guevara, will present the memoirs regarding the exercise of this high court during 2014 and the goals they have for 2015.

President Danilo Medina and other personalities have been invited to the activities.

They begin with a mass of thanksgiving ( Te Deum), which will be offered at the First Cathedral of America, at 9:00 a.m., by Cardinal Nicolas de Jesus Lopez Rodriguez. And the solemn audience will be held at 11:00 a.m. in the august Courtroom of the Supreme Court of Justice, in the Center of the Heroes.

During the audience, Ray Guevara will undertake the keynote speech, in which he will present the principal achievements of the high court in 2014, as well as the plans and projects for 2015.

Besides its chief magistrate, judges Leyda Margarita Piña Medrano, the first a substitute of the chief magistrate; Lino Vásquez Sámuel, the 2nd substitute; Víctor Gómez Bergés, Justo Pedro Castellanos, Hermógenes Acosta de los Santos, Rafael Díaz Filpo, Wilson Gómez Ramírez, Ana Isabel Bonilla, Víctor Joaquín Castellanos Pizano and Jottin Cury David, Katia Miguelina Jiménez and Idelfonso Reyes will be in attendance.

Together with President Danilo Medina, Vice President Margarita Cedeño de Fernandez, First Lady Candida Montilla de Medina, administration officials, civilians and military personnel, judges of the other high court's, of the tribunals of the Republic, representatives of the Justice Department, lawyers and professionals of different branches have been invited.

Since it began to operate in 2012, the high court has issued 801 sentences and has established diverse criteria which have originated a prolonged judicial debate in the country and overseas such as that which touched on Dominican nationality.

In 2012, the court handed down 104 decisions, and 2013 it decided 290 cases and the decisions issued in 2014 reached 407.

In 2014, the TC provided the judicial spark with the emission of sentence 256 - 14, by which it disassociated the Dominican Republic from the judicial effects emanating from the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IAC HR), by declaring as unconstitutional the Instrument of Acceptance of the Competence of this international court, signed in 1999.
