Hatuey: "Nobody can unite the PRD"; he continues contacts

SANTO DOMINGO. In an attempt to achieve the unification of the opposition in order to create a front against the official party, the president of the Social Democratic Revolutionary Party (PRSD), Hatuey de Camps, met yesterday with political leader Luis Abinader.

"I do not pretend to unify the PRD, this is water under the bridge, nobody can unify the PRD, what I do understand is that in order to get the PLD out will require a minimum agreement by the opposition, and what was the structure of the PRD," he emphasized in a meeting held in the Abinader residence.

De Camps said that a single leadership is required, and it would be very difficult that, separately, the PRD and the PRM obtain in the next elections, senators and deputies as well as increase their number of mayors.

He announced that over the next few days he would seek to meet with the PRD President, Miguel Vargas. The meeting with Abinader is the 2nd that Hatuey has held. The first was with former President Hipolito Mejia.

For his part, Abinader greeted the possibility that they might achieve a national agreement of the opposition parties.
