Pope appoints bishops in Santiago, Barahona and La Vega
SANTO DOMINGO. The Apostolic Nunciature in the Dominican Republic and the Dominican Council of Bishops reported last night that Pope Francis appointed three new bishops in Santiago de los Caballeros, Barahona and La Vega.

In Santiago, Monsignor Freddy Antonio de Jesus Breton Martinez was transferred from the Dioceses of Bani and appointed Metropolitan Archbishop. Breton Martinez is a native of Canca la Reina (Licey), and was born in October 1947. He was the vicar in parishes of Altamira, Luperon, Mamay Los Hidalgos and Imbert, and in charge of the Youth Pastoral of the dioceses of Santiago. Since 1981 he was one of the members of the first Training Team at the Pontifical Seminary St. Thomas of Aquinas.

At the same time, Reverend Father Andres Napoleon Romero Cárdenas was appointed Bishop of Barahona. He had been in the Dioceses of San Francisco de Macoris, and was the parish priest of the Santa Anna Cathedral. He was born in July 1967 in Ramonal Arriba, San Francisco de Macoris. He was ordained a priest on a July 1995. During the years of his ministry he has had different jobs. He was rector of the Minor Seminary St. Francis of Assisi, and the professor and trainer, and director of the dioceses vocational program.

The third appointment carried out by the Supreme Pontiff was for the new Bishop of La Vega, who was the Reverend Hector Rafael Rodriguez Rodriguez, who is a native of Sanchez and was first counselor of the Congregation of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart, in Rome. He was born on 13 January 1961. In 1976 he entered the Vocational Center of the Missionary Fathers of the Sacred Heart. In June 1989 he was ordained a priest, and studied Spirituality at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.
