Digging starts today at 27 of February and Privado
Public Works says the project will speed up the vehicular traffic.

SANTO DOMINGO. The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) confirmed yesterday to the Diario Libre that today they will begin the process of excavation, for the construction of the underpass at the intersection of 27 February and Privado.
The director of Communications and Press of the Ministry, Juan Perez Recio, noted, on the telephone, that the removal of the asphalt continues at a good rhythm.
"Vigilance is always maintained, with the help of AMET agents, in order that traffic is not too traumatic, and they can move traffic along without any type of inconvenience," he declared.
Likewise, he said that the constructing companies of the project, Estrella and Odebrecht, have reported through pamphlets to the citizens, regarding the alternate routes in order to avoid problems with traffic.
"All this is organized, with traffic signs; we are working to avoid accidents. But what we are looking for (with the underpass) is precisely to be able to speed up traffic on these important roads," he added.
Duarte II Corridor
It will be recalled that the underpass at 27 February and Privado is part of the Duarte II Corridor, a project that first started on the Ecologica Avenue in the municipality of East Santo Domingo.
The construction of the Duarte II Corridor involves an investment of US$250 million. The project will include overpasses in the Fontainbleau Gardens; at the Republic of Colombia and Monumental; on the Ecologica; at Charles de Gaulle and Mella Highway; at St. Vincent de Paul and Mella Highway, and at St. Vincent de Paul and Fernandez de Navarrete.
In addition, there are underpasses on Colombia, all the way to the cloverleaf on Jacobo Majluta; at Caonabo and 27 February; Luperon and 27, and Isabel Aguiar and 27. Also, there is a ditch underneath the traffic circle on the Los Proceres Avenue.
