Starting today and until next Monday a stretch of George Washington Ave. will close

SD. The Ayuntamiento of the National District (ADN) announced that starting today, Wednesday at noon, they will close the stretch of George Washington Ave. from San Geronimo Street to Juan M. Heredia Street in order to install the Holy Week in Guibia event, for which they will dump 1500 m³ of sand on the stretch of the Avenue around the area of the Guibia Plaza, and place 12 above-ground swimming pools in the area.

The city government said that this stretch of the road will again be available for vehicular traffic starting on Monday at 6 AM.

For this reason, they ordered a detour for the vehicles that are going from the West to the East, taking San Geronimo Street to Independencia Avenue and following this street. Drivers can return to George Washington Ave. once again on the Juan M. Heredia Street. At the same time, those who are traveling from the East to the West, should detour on Socorro Sanchez Street, to the Juan Sanchez Ramirez Street or Bolivar Avenue in order to return to the West.

According to the ADN, in 2014 the event was visited by 512,000 persons, of which 42.7% came from the National District, 17.9% from North Santo Domingo, 18.3% from East Santo Domingo, 11.8% from West Santo Domingo, while 9.3% lived outside of Santo Domingo.
