Work on Isabela River waiting for loan approval in order to begin

SANTO DOMINGO. After assuring reporters that more than 450,000 families will benefit from the water treatment plant that will clean up the Isabela River, the director general of the Santo Domingo Water and Sewer Corporation (CAASD), Alejandro Montas, announced that they will begin the work as soon as the National Congress approves the loan for €50 million, designated for this project.

He noted that he is thinking about holding a meeting with Senate President Cristina Lizardo, as well as with the Senate Commission which is charged with the study of the loan in order to offer them the necessary explanations.

"I think they will have to send it (the contract) to some of the commissions in the Senate one of which could be that of Hacienda which is what they normally do," said the official.

He explained that the water treatment plant will benefit 450,000 families by resolving the problem of sewage.

"Once the loan is approved the work will start and we're going to obtain the land to begin the movement of earth, begin measuring and the redrawing of the project," he pointed out.

The CAASD director spoke to reporters before taking part in a Mass held at the Cathedral, celebrating the 42nd anniversary of the foundation of the institution, which he said has centered its work on restoring the systems of water supply in order to provide the liquid to the citizens of Greater Santo Domingo.

The mass was celebrated by Father Nelson Clark, who called on the authorities of the CAASD to continue working so that someday all Dominicans have water in their homes.
