Haiti responds to pressure and will pay damage to trucks
Fenatrado decides to renew transportation

DAJABON. The Truckers Syndicate of the province of Dajabon affiliated to the National Federation of Dominican Transportation (Fenatrado) will renew, starting Wednesday (today), the transport of merchandise to Haiti, after diplomatic authorities from the Dominican Republic and the neighboring country promised to pay the damages that vandals caused to four trucks that were plundered, as they drove through the city of Juana Mendez, last Monday afternoon.
Geovanny Escoto, the Secretary-General of the truckers union, said that the Haitian and Dominican diplomatic officials held a meeting in the offices of the provincial Governor, and they committed to carry out efforts to obtain from each government (Dominican and Haitian), the value of the damage to the four trucks, estimated at some US $90,000. Likewise, Escoto reported that the National Police of Haiti had recovered part of the stolen merchandise.
He said that at the present time a judge and a prosecutor are carrying out a survey regarding what was taken from the trailers. He pointed out that the provincial Governor Ramona Rodriguez and the chief of Cesfront, Brigadier General Carlos Aguirre Reyes, promised to provide monitoring of this situation.
The military authorities ordered a strengthening of the vigilance along the frontier of the province of Dajabon with Haiti, in order to avoid new disturbances. Each Monday and Friday, Dominican and Haitian merchants hold a bi-national market in which several million pesos exchange hands.
Occupation
On the other hand, members of the Minustah and members of the National Police of Haiti occupied the city of Juana Mendez, in search of the persons responsible for the violent incidents which cost the life of the Sergeant of the Chilean Armada and member of the mission, Rodrigo Andres Sanhueza.
Likewise, the military are searching vehicles that leave Juana Mendez going towards Dajabon, for the purpose of avoiding that some persons involved in the incidents flee towards the Dominican Republic.
