The Attorney General rescues 41 minors from the streets
Taking part in the operation were units from the Police, AMET and Conani

SD. Forty one minors, between Dominicans and Haitians, who were used as beggars and in other activities, were rescued at some of the principal intersections of streets and avenues of the National District.
The minors were 40 boys, with ages between nine and 16. Of these, 13 are Haitian and there is also a girl of the same nationality. The children, besides begging on the public streets, at the time they were rescued, were found carrying out different jobs, such as window cleaning and shoe shining, or selling merchandise and edible products such as peanuts, cashews, pineapples or crackers.
Mari sol Tobal, the second substitute of the Attorney General of the Republic, and head of the National Coordination of Boys, Girls and Adolescence (NNA), who headed the operation, said that these operations are being carried out in order to take the children and adolescents off of the streets since they are oftentimes the victims of human trafficking. She also intends to indict the persons responsible for this practice. She said that the Justice Department is carrying out the operations together with the Specialized Judicial Police of the NNA, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (AMET) and the National Council for Children and Adolescents (Conani). She suggested that the objective is to rescue the minors that are carrying out some work or job on the streets, in order to take them to their homes, and indict the parents or tutors would take them to those places, in violation of the Code of Minors.
The children and adolescents were picked up on avenues such as Maximo Gomez, Nuñez de Caceres at 27 February, Romulo Betancourt, Winston Churchill and Independencia.
Tobal said that some of the victims admitted that they were placed to carry out these jobs by their parents or tutors, and others by persons that they knew, who will be indicted and sentenced to court. In addition, during the operation of the prosecutors of Boys, Girls and Adolescents, Marilyn Castillo, Francisco Contreras Nuñez, and Ana Lalane took part together with the representation of the Specialized Police, colonels Feliz, Escolastico and Fabian.
