Luis Abinader: I am the shortest road to the National Palace
SD. Six days away from facing his greatest political challenge, Luis Abinader seems very confident in his work and in his political ability to carry the first presidential candidacy of the newly created Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), next Sunday 26 April.

"The PRM rank and file is now going to elect their presidential candidate, they are not electing the party leader nor are they electing the person they love the most," he argued.

Abinader indicated that, independently of the fact of what happens in the convention, former President Hipolito Mejia will have his place in the PRM, he will be their principal leader and also one of their greatest leaders.

"We are going to elect our presidential candidate, the one who the people feel is the shortest road to the National Palace," he indicated.

He stressed that a convention is going to be won or lost and that everyone should accept the results of this internal process.

"The only candidacy that I accept is the presidential candidacy. On the issue of the vice presidential candidate, and I have repeated this, that is a stage that will not return in my life," he emphasized.

As an example of how democratic he is, he recalls that the franchise that the PRM now occupies was one which was controlled politically by himself, and he conceded it. "And here we are competing after conceding it; this is not understandable in many Dominican minds, but this will give you a demonstration of our democratic credentials," he stated.

"I have the preparation"

Faced with the question that his internal adversaries praise Mejia's experience in the State, against his, he stressed that "since I was a young man I have been administrating and I am managing, and what I believe is that the government needs a new vision of an efficient government, carrying total transparency to the government and this is the experience that I have and the experience of a good manager, of transparency."

Abinader assured reporters that he has prepared himself all his life in order to know the problems of the country, educating himself here as well as overseas, in order to bring innovative solutions to complex problems of small nations such as this one.

"The Dominican population can be sure of the fact that we have the character, that we have the decision, we have the integrity, the honesty, the ethics, but above all a great passion to help the Dominican Republic," he underlined.

He feels blessed

He confessed that he feels blessed by God and also thankful to this country personally and professionally, as he indicates that thanks to the Almighty, from the business and economic point of view his family has been able to develop itself and advanced in the country.

As one of his advantages, he says he has an organized family, that is growing, and all this permits him now to take this time to serve the country with integrity, to search for the solutions to reduce the problem of public safety, to convert the government into a great facilitator of jobs, as well as having the strength and the character to not permit corruption and reduce it to its minimum expression.

"There also has to be the social element, to have the vocation that in this country, where the majority of the inhabitants are persons of few resources, that we also have to maintain prices, a stability which permits the people with their poor salaries to be able to acquire the products at the best price, and I am prepared to serve my country and the people can trust in me," he said.

He said that his ability permits him to be clear that the state's resources should be invested in a rational manner in order to attend what should be the goal of any politician, to improve the quality of life of all Dominican men and women.

Some 325,000 registered in the PRM

The presidential hopeful of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), Luis Abinader, stressed that in three days of the operation some 325,000 new persons entered the voting rolls of militants of that party. "The lines overflowed in the barrios of the Greater Capital and in all of the provinces, the people came in mass to register, because they want changes and so I can also count on, besides our team, the abilities of all the PRM faithful who want to achieve power and also with society, that is my strength."
