Consensus proposal for Law on Parties will be ready tomorrow



SANTO DOMINGO. For tomorrow, Wednesday, a consensus proposal for the Law of Political Parties will be ready, the result of discussions and analysis with the principal political organizations of the country.

The announcement was made by Monsignor Agripino Nunez Collado, after holding a meeting of nearly 2 hours with the presidents and leadership of the Dominican Liberation (PLD), Dominican Revolutionary (PRD), Social Christian Reformist (PR SC), Modern Revolutionary (PRM) parties, as well as those of the Central Electoral Board (JCE) and of the Senate and Chamber of Deputies.

"We advance newly 100% in the suggestions, only some small details over which they have asked for a space until next Wednesday in order that the parties can analyze and revise them, and next Wednesday we have an agreed-upon document," he indicated during a meeting held at the Pontifical Catholic University Madre y Maestra (PUCMM). The PRM and requested time to study the proposals.

Monsignor said he trusted that from tomorrow's meeting a final document would result which will immediately be delivered to the presidents of the Senate, Cristina Lizardo and the Chamber of Deputies, Abel Martinez.

He recalled that there exists a commitment by the political class that for 2016 they will be a Law of Parties.

"Today the news is that there will be an agreement on Wednesday, but we have to wait to tune some issues in order to give the complete story," emphasized Nuñez Collado, after refusing to give details regarding the points on which they are seeking the consensus.

Taking part in the meeting, for the PRD, were Miguel Vargas Maldonado, Victor Gomez Casanova and Ruddy Gonzalez; for the PLD, Rafael Alburquerque and Franklin Almeyda; for the PR SC, Federico Antun Batlle, Ramon Rogelio Genao, and Tacito Perdomo; and for the PRM, Andres Bautista, Jesus Vasquez, Orlando Jorge Mera and Nelson Arroyo. Also attending were Cristina Lizardo and Abel Martinez, the heads of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies together with Roberto Rosario of the JCE.

• In a previous meeting, the PLD, PRD and PR SC reached a consensus regarding the election of the representatives to the Parlacen, will be through the preferential vote. In addition they agreed that for the election of the directors of municipal districts, the parties would nominate the director of the district and the members which would correspond to the locality. They also agreed upon aspects regarding the distribution of the state's economic resources, the quotas to elective posts, as well as the contributions to the parties, groups and movements.
