The Dominican Republic, in the midst of a great transformation in tourism
PUNTA CANA. Tourism in the Dominican Republic is going through the most important transformation in the last 10 years, with the construction between 2014 and 2015 of more than 1000 new rules at the refurbishment of more than 2000 in the hotels, who structures imply a cost of US$400 million, which will be added to another US$1.6 billion that will be invested in new projects.

To all of this can be added the entry of new world brands such as the case of Cheriton, who returned to the country; Ramada with the Princes Hotel on 27 of February in Santo Domingo, as well as Radisson (the old Hotel Naco) on Tiradentes Avenue, also in the Dominican capital along with the American chain Ganservoort, in Sosua.

"We have 1013 rooms built so far between 2014 and 2015. We have concentrated on the renovation and refurbishment of the existing hotel facilities, 2740 have been changed. This is the most important process of upgrading our tourist inventory in the last 10 years," said the president of Asonahores, Simon Suarez.

He said that the different tourist areas of the country are being restructured by chains, for example the Grand Paradise in Samana, Amhas Marina Resort, Riu and Karisma.

He said that he is optimistic that the renewal process will continue in the different tourist poles, and we hope to incorporate 2000 more rooms."

"All told, with regard to hotels, we have 2007 the rooms under construction, and 998 put into service and nine hotels inaugurated last year and 2714 rooms renovated or in the process of construction," he noted.

For his side, the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Ramon Martinez Aponte, stressed that last year 33 investment projects that will energize even more that sector were approved by the ministry.

Likewise, he noted that the work of renovation in the Colonial Zone continues at a good rhythm, and that the projections that they will be ready next June are still viable. "This is going to create a new mobility of tourist and is going to contribute to the development of circuits through which the tourist can access easily the city of Santo Domingo," he said.

In a like manner, he referred to the fact that the renovations have taken an investment of US$400 million, and that in new projects they will invest US$1.6 billion.

Suarez and Martinez Aponte spoke during the celebration of the Dominican Annual Tourism Exchange (DATE) 2015, which is being held at the Barcelo Bavaro Beach Resort.

Samana will incorporate 284 new rooms

The tourist destination of Samana will increase its offer with 284 new rooms, which will be incorporated in the market with the construction of two hotels in Las Terrenas and Las Galeras.

These are the hotels V Samana which belongs to the chain of Viva Wyndham Resorts, which is being constructed in Las Terrenas, and a complex belonging to Amhsa Marina Hotels & Resorts.

Ettore Colusi, the president of the Viva Wyndham Resorts chain explained that the new resort will be the first in combining hip elegance with the modern and relaxing environment in an all inclusive offering.

He explained that the new installations will have 144 rooms with a vista of the sea or the gardens, of which 48 will be "viber rooms" with an ocean view and private pools.

For their part, the chain Hotelera Anhsa Marina Hotels & Resorts announced the construction of a 140 room hotel, that will operate as an all-inclusive, in Las Galeras, with an investment of US$20 million.

The President of the entity, Luis Lopez, explained that its new offering will be for adults only and they will permit the access to although the facilities of the Grand Paradise Samana, which is just next door and that is also operated by Amhsa Marina.
