Drivers plead innocent; hearing on coercive measures postponed until Thursday
SANTO DOMINGO. In the midst of the pleas of innocence, the hearing for coercive measures against 12 drivers from Andres, Boca Chica, was postponed until tomorrow, Thursday, at 1:00 p.m. The men are accused of acts of vandalism against 50 students who tried to travel by bus to the Book Fair.

The decision was taken by the judge of Permanent Attention of the province of Santo Domingo, Melania de la Cruz, who took the measure so that the defense could examine the evidence presented by the Justice Department who filed the accusation against the defendants. Eduardo Salvador Fersola, Francisco Tejeda Marte, Josué Castillo Santana, Félix Manuel Merán García, Luis Pineda Castillo, Daniel Bautista Espinal, Franklin de León, Rafael Poleón Féliz, Alfredo Sención Rosado, Juan Carlos Javier Aquino, Yoryi Luisa and Luis Rafael Castillo Luis are currently being held in the detention cells of the District Attorney's office.

According to lawyer Juan Bencosme, the representative of the Minibus Drivers Association of Boca Chica (ASOCHOMBCA) and of the Syndicate of Owner - Drivers of Boca Chica (SICHOPROBOCH), during the hearing the Justice Department presented a DVD containing an alleged taping of the incident, which the magistrate decided that the defense should examine, so she granted time for the collection of evidence for a dismissal.

"There are new lawyers who do not have any knowledge of the indictment, and others had partial knowledge, because of this we were given time," he explained as he announced that they would request that the magistrate impose coercive measures that did not include preventive custody for the defendants.

Before the hearing, the drivers proclaimed their innocence, and denied the accusations filed against them.

"We are working fathers, we would never do something like that," said Eduardo Salvador Fersola, one of the defendants. The hearing began at 11:00 a.m. yesterday in a court room prepared on the second floor of the Palace of Justice of the province of Santo Domingo.
