Jarabacoa registers temperatures over 35°C (95°F)
Ceballos assures reporters that Onamet is prepared for hurricane season

SANTO DOMINGO. The director of the National Meteorological Office (Onamet), Gloria Ceballos, reported that the climate situation has taken a dramatic turn, in which the town of Jarabacoa, where it is always springtime, temperatures have gone over 35°C in the first quarter of the year.
She noted that the drought and the high temperatures will remain for the coming summer, when it is expected that temperatures will go over 40°C (104°F) in some areas of the country.
She explained that during the January - April period of the present year, temperatures that had not been seen for more than a century were registered. In this sense she noted that the climate patterns are changing, and therefore that the seasons of rain and drought are also changing, and in this same direction the actions of men should also move in order to take advantage of the water as a limited resource.
Interviewed on the program D'Agenda, transmitted on Telesistema, Ceballos also stressed that the hurricane season, which begins on 1 June, will be one with the lowest activity in the last few years, even below last year which saw very little activity.
She explained that the meteorological scientists have predicted that for the next six months the Atlantic will see perhaps six storms, of which they expect that four will reach hurricane strength, and one of them will be in the intense category.
