They say more than 25,000 foreigners take advantage of plan for voluntary return
SD. The Directorate General of Migration reported yesterday that as of that date, 25,517 foreigners who lived in the country without documents have returned voluntarily to their countries of origin, since last 18 June when the process of registration in the National Plan of Normalization of Foreigners came to an end.

Through a press release, Migration detailed that of that number, 1100 persons have taken advantage of the facilities for transportation offered by this agency and which consist in transportation to the frontier in buses, as well as trucks in order to transfer the belongings of the foreigners.

Nonetheless, they do not specify how many of the 25,517 foreigners are Haitian and how many are of other nationalities. In the case of the undocumented foreigners who are not Haitian, Migration has also not reported anything regarding any facility for a voluntary return.

Conep joins in the defense

In the meantime, yesterday Rafael Blanco Canto, the president of the National Council of Private Enterprise (Conep), said that the business sector has been working "shoulder to shoulder and hand in hand" with the government in the defense of the Normalization Plan, both at the national as well as international level.

He indicated that they have identified ways which allow them to place the proper message regarding the country's position in the most influential media and centers of power in the United States, Europe, South America and Asia, because there are misperceptions and bad information circulating in regard to everything about the Plan that recently concluded.

Blanco Canto said that they have taken messages regarding the truth of what has been done and what is being done to ambassadors of the European Union, the United States as well as in summits such as CELAC and of the European Union. They also go to other events in which they have given the proper explanations.

He said that they have also explained the advances achieved between Dominican and Haitian businessman in the "Quisqueya Dialogue" which seeks to plan the comprehensive development of the frontier area.

Haiti, not very helpful

He said that the Haitian government shows very little human solidarity with its citizens because besides not providing documents to their fellow citizens who live here, they allow it to affect the commercial exchange at the bi-national market in Dajabon.

Today in the OAS

Chancellor Andres Navarro, who heads the defense of the country against the campaign of international discredit, will speak today before the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS), about what the country is doing with regard to immigration.

The government began a communication strategy to establish that it is neither racist nor xenophobic. Last Friday, President Danilo Medina spoke of the issue in the meeting of SICA in Guatemala where he said that the sovereignty of the country will not brought into question by one tourist more, or one cent more of investment. He responded to the Mayor of New York who called for a boycott of tourism for alleged mistreatment of the Haitians.
