Danilo inaugurates a second stretch of the Beltway

Corridor will join Duarte Highway with Yamasa Highway

SANTO DOMINGO. The government put into service yesterday the second portion of Phase-A of the Santo Domingo Beltway, the Highway project which according to reports, will contribute to ease vehicular traffic in the province of Santo Domingo and in the National District.

President Danilo Medina and the Vice President Margarita Cedeño de Fernandez headed the inauguration ceremony of this stretch of the highway, which is 22 km long, and which in this phase will join the Duarte Highway with the Yamasa Highway.

As he gave the keynote speech, the Minister of Public Works, Gonzalo Castillo, reported that by order of the President, the corridor will carry the name of Professor Juan Bosch.

He defined the stretch of Highway as unique, since it unites the South region, through the Sanchez and six November highways; the North with the Duarte Highway and the East with the Jacobo Majluta and Charles de Gaulle avenues. This is a four lane toll road and each lane is 3.60 m wide.

Attending the inauguration also, were Julio Brache, the executive corporate president of the Rica Group, who gave the words of welcome; Raul Risek, the representative of the shareholders of Magna, who reported that in the construction of the corridor they used a monthly payroll of some 1500 direct employees. No official cost of the project was offered to the press.
