The strike which affects the city is ongoing and they call for clearing up death of young man
SALCEDO. A young man was shot dead and a woman was injured in a shooting incident between demonstrators and police agents during the indefinite strike that is affecting the city of Salcedo. The strike was called by the Broad Front of Popular Struggle (FALPO).
The fatality was identified as Jonathan Paulino, 31, who was shot in the sector of El Mango, while the woman shot in the leg was identified as Johana Rodriguez, 31. She was in the barrio of Rabo Duro and was shot as she was taking food to her husband who was working in the barrio.
The new strike is in demand for clearing up the death of the young athlete, Hector Ramon Medina, which occurred on 12 May close to the Central Park of the city. He was shot by several persons who fled on a motorcycle. While the National Police say that members of FALPO are responsible, the popular organization blames the law enforcement agency for the death. The FALPO spokesman in Salcedo, Dario Camilo, warned that the strike is indefinite.
Several streets of the city were blocked by burning tires, rocks and other refuse thrown out by the demonstrators. Military troops and police, carrying heavy weapons were monitoring the city.
From the early hours of the morning the city lives with tension, due to the demonstrations and clashes, This has forced many families to abandon their homes and take refuge in the houses of relatives in the countryside.
