Threats on the lives of prosecutors in Paya case
The chief of police, Minister of Armed Forced and Attorney General
SANTO DOMINGO. The assistant district attorneys that are prosecuting the case against the 25 civilians and military personnel for the execution of the 7 Colombians in the section of Ojo de Agua, Paya, in Peravia province, are receiving death threats from the accused.

The complaint was made yesterday during a press conference held by the Attorney General of the Republic, Radhames Jimenez Peña, accompanied by the Minister of the Armed Forces, Pedro Rafael Peña Antonio, the chief of the National Police, Rafael Guillermo Guzman Fermin, and the Presidential advisor on drug trafficking, Marino Vinicio Castillo.

Likewise, the Attorney General was accompanied by the assistant district attorneys that were threatened. Jimenez Peña said that during the last hearing in the Paya case, that is being held in the Courthouse in San Cristobal, the representatives of the Justice Department were the object of threats by the majority of the accused in the much talked about case. "We are going to kill you all", cited the official, as he narrated the clear intention of the accused, "with lots of arrogance and haughtiness".

He called these actions unacceptable. Jimenez Peña said that in the face of the seriousness of the situation, the risk and the security of the members of the Justice Department and the law, he will request in the next few hours that the Supreme Court transfer the proceedings of the case to the National District.

He assured the reporters that the process involves not only the credibility of the Justice Department, but also the justice system in general. "The threats were made by the majority of the accused, according to the information we possess", he said.

For his part, Vincho Castillo showed that this was a very serious, distressful and negative incident. He considered that it put into relief the insolence and the power that the structures that carry out drug trafficking think they have in the country. He assured the reporters that the drug traffickers are moved to violence on any kind.

The assistant district attorneys that are carrying out the prosecution of the Paya case are Francisco Polanco, Bienvenido Favian Melo, German Miranda Villalona, Dulce Maria Luciano, Maria del Carmen de Leon, Constantino Beltre Sanchez, Francisco Gomez Valdez, Paulino Zapata, and Rigoberto Santana.

During the last hearing, the accused disrespected the prosecutors and the judge with crude, sarcastic, and threatening expressions, with nobody putting a stop to their impulses.
