Campaign for Rectory at UASD ends today
SANTO DOMINGO. On the eve of the elections to choose the new rector and other authorities that will guide the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), the Central Electoral Commission called upon the 2,484 persons eligible to vote to take part in the University Cloister.

In the meantime, the five candidates for the rectory of the university intend to win the votes of their fellow professors with proposals of salary increases, among other things.

Mateo Aquino Febrillet, Ivan Grullon Alejandro Pichardo, Rafael (Nino) Feliz, and Oscar Rosario have a strategic plan on their agendas. In general, these cover the academic, financial, managerial and investigative transformation of the UASD. Febrillet is betting on the decentralization of the academy, the internationalization and technology.

He said that if he wins the elections, the first six months of his administration will see the recovery of the teaching areas declared a high priority, with emphasis on the solution of the problems that present themselves in the area of the university registrar's office in order to speed up the services that are demanded by students and alumni.

Regarding Grullon, his proposals are based on an administration of participation, transparency and quality.

He proposes to use the majority of the economic resources in the academic areas, in the infrastructure and in the departments that support the work of the First University of America.

For his part, Rosario summarizes his proposal in the improvement of the quality of teaching, research, and academic services.

For Pichardo the important things are excellence, solidarity, and rescuing the institutionalism, improving the infrastructure and executing the budget with transparency.

The essence of the proposals by Feliz rests in rescuing the institutionalism of the academy, in order to allow it to compete and place it together with society and government to serve as a platform for the strategies, as an institution of public education at the university level.
