Morales asks Russians to invest in DR

MOSCOW. Minister of Foreign Relations Carlos Morales Troncoso invited the Russian business sector to compliment their economic expansion and growth by establishing themselves in the Dominican Republic where they could take advantage of the benefits the country offers foreign investors as well as doing business with other nations in the area.

When he presented his talk on "Bilateral perspective between the Russian Federation and the Dominican Republic" to the Russian International Business Forum, Morales Troncoso said that while it was true that no comparisons was possible between the economies of Russia and the DR, "the key is to look towards the complementary aspects."

Morales said that from any point of view the Russian Federation was a giant, with its 141 million inhabitants, more than 17,000,000 square kilometers of land mass, eleven time zones, and it is the largest exporter of natural gas in the world and the second largest exporter of oil, and its foreign trade last year was US$500 billion.

Nonetheless, the Dominican official urged the Russian businessmen not to look at the enormous differences in the sizes of the two countries, the number of their inhabitants or the huge dimensions that separate the two economies.

He assured his listeners that the Dominican Republic can compliment the economic growth and energies of the Russian Federation and the forward looking investors from the powerful corporations of the federation that are looking around the world for partners and business opportunities.

"The same way we represent for Russian tourists a revitalizing climate of warm temperatures and exuberant tropical settings, we can present the Russian investors with a land of opportunity for growth and expansion", he said.

He followed this by saying specifically, "The Dominican Republic has a need for investors in the area of energy production. Our industrial consumers are demanding electric energy at less cost, and because of this we have an open market for energy production with generators of combined fuels or that operate with natural gas."
