Businessmen visit Danilo and announce investments of RD$250 million
SANTO DOMINGO. President Danilo Medina received yesterday in his offices at the Presidential Palace the executives of the Hanes Brands free zone company which has been in the country for 40 years.

Ricardo Perez, the vice-president of operations of the United States company, talking with reporters in the Orlando Martinez Salon, announced that Hanes, which makes men's underwear, will invest some RD$250 million this year.

"This investment is an affirmation of the confidence that the company has deposited in the Dominican Republic as it reaches 40 years of continual investments and uninterrupted operations," he observed.

Perez explained that these resources will be invested in machinery, equipment and installations in the Dos River factory in Bonao; in the expansion of the areas of ironing, of loading and unloading of the containers, in several sewing areas, as well as in distribution centers and in the optimization of the biomass facility.

"Since 1973 our company has maintained an important presence in the country and over the last few years we have averaged over 7,500 direct formal employees in the East, in the capital and in the North of the country, representing 18% of the total employees registered in the textile industry of the free zones," he said while talking to the media.

According to Perez, the investment by Hanes reached RD$304 million last year, which together with what is projected for this year will total more than RD$500 million, plus in payroll each year they pay some RD$1.5 billion in the country.

The executive stressed the investments by Hanes in the training of Dominican human resources together with an important degree of technological transfer through close collaboration with the Institute of Technical Professional Training (INFOTEP).

"In addition, we support and we incorporate part of the "Preparate" program of the Ministry of Education and we take part in the execution of the National Literacy Program."

Perez spoke accompanied by the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Jose del Castillo Saviñon and other government officials, besides the Hanes executives.
