Haitian Chancellor and Minister arrive today to discuss ban
Merchants reiterate the boycott today of frontier market

SANTO DOMINGO. The ministers of Foreign Relations and Agriculture from Haiti, Richard Pierre Casimi and Joanas Gue will arrive today to talk to officials of the Dominican government about the impasse which has come about as a result of the ban which their country placed on the import of Dominican poultry products. In the meantime, merchants in Dajabon reiterated the call for a boycott and stoppage of the bilateral market in the frontier town.
The Minister of Foreign Relations, Carlos Morales Troncoso, said he was confident that this meeting will produce some conclusions and concrete solutions that will benefit the commerce of both nations.
The Haitian ministers will come accompanied by a technical team and will be received in the Dominican Chancellery.
Strike in Dajabon
The president of the Merchant's Federation of Dajabon, Freddy Morillo, reiterated the call for a strike and boycott on the bilateral commerce in the frontier city, as an answer to the ban that is Haiti has maintained with respect to the sale of poultry and eggs to be exported to the neighboring country.
Morillo said that they gave an extension until 10:00 a.m. on Saturday morning to get an answer from the Haitian government, but in the fact of the indifference from the neighboring government, they decided to go ahead with the strike/boycott call.
He said that the call to boycott the market has the backing of a wide sector of the commerce of the city, which understands that the attitude maintained by the Haitian government is a mockery, which according to what he said, are acting in complicity with a tiny group of Haitian merchants that want to destroy the business between the two nations.
Freddy Morillo recalled that the situation is not new since in 2008 something similar happened, and he said that they are clear about the bad intentions of the officials, when even accepting that there is not bird flu, they do not lift the ban. "This is not new because in 2008 they did the same thing," he recalled.
The merchant leader said that the objective to put an end to the exchange along the frontier started with chickens and eggs, but it has extended to plastic spoons and spoons.
"If this little group achieves the elimination of the commercial exchange, this will have a negative impact on the Dominican Republic due to the fact that the misery in Haiti will be worse and this will move a massive immigration towards the DR; if there are two million, we predict that in a year the Haitian presence in our country will be six million," said Morillo so that he feels that it is convenient for both countries to maintain the commercial exchange.
