Poll puts LF out front for 2016
SANTO DOMINGO. Former President Leonel Fernandez would have an advantage over Miguel Vargas Maldonado and Luis Abinader, both from the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD) in case he presents himself as a candidate for the presidency in the 2016 elections, but he would be tied with the former President Hipolito Mejia.

According to information supplied by the pollsters Penn, Schoen and Berland, given the question "If the presidential elections were held today and the candidates were ......, for whom would you vote?" Fernandez beat Vargas by 19 points and Abinader by 6 points. At the same time he remained in a technical tie against the former President Hipolito Mejia.

Against the PRD president, Fernandez got 43% and Vargas 24%. The majority preference for Fernandez was given by women (48%) and in the age bracket of those over 55 years of age or more (46%). In the meantime, Vargas won among men, (27%) and in the 18 to 24 age bracket (28%).

Some 28% said that they would vote for the candidate of another party.

Against Abinader, the current PLD president obtained 44% against 38% for his opponent, while receiving the same percentage of the female vote as in the previous scenario, and favored by the same age bracket but with 43%. On the other hand, Abinader received greater support among men (46%) and in the 40-54 age bracket (43%).

In this scenario, 13% of those polled said that they would vote for some other party.

Nonetheless, Fernandez obtained one point less of the electoral preference against Mejia (41% versus 42%).

The preference for the former President from the PLD was also marked by the women (47%), while the former President from the PRD was championed by the men with 48%.

Mejia was noted as having greater preference among those polled in the 18-24 age group (44%), while Fernandez was supported by the majority of the persons in the 55 or more age group (45%).

The survey company did not offer Diario Libre more details regarding the universe of the sample nor the date on which the poll was taken.

Dominguez Brito

If the candidate from the PLD was the current Attorney General of the Republic, Francisco Dominguez Brito, the Purple Party would win against a candidacy of the PRD president, Miguel Vargas Maldonado, or against Luis Abinader. Nonetheless he would lose against Hipolito Mejia.

According to the poll, Dominguez Brito beat Vargas Maldonado by 20 points, obtaining 44% against 24% for the PRD president.

In this scenario, Dominguez Brito was favored with the majority of the votes from women (46%); while Vargas Maldonado was supported by the men (28%)

In the age brackets, those questioned who were 55 years of age or more favored Dominguez with (50%). On the other hand Vargas received the most support from the younger voters between 18 and 24 (35%).

Nevertheless, the difference in preferences of the current Justice Department official and Abinader was two percentage points, 39% to 37%.

In this case Dominguez Brito also obtained greater support from the women (45%), and Abinader from the men (48%).

The preference for Dominguez Brito, according to this survey, falls against the former President Hipolito Mejia, a scenario in which he obtained 38% while the PRD leader obtained 41% of the voters' preference.

The women who were questioned also showed a greater preference for the PLD option than the men (43%). And the make segment was inclined to support the PRD by some 48%.

This data will be published today in the bi-weekly edition of the investigative magazine "La Lupa sin Trabas" where they will offer other details regarding the voting preferences for the 2016 elections.
