Barrios say crime is down
The patrols have been increased during the last few weeks
SANTO DOMINGO. The population perceives that crime has gone down considerably over the past two weeks, and they called upon President Danilo Medina to keep the military on the streets and helping the National Police to carry out patrols.
This was reported by several citizens that were consulted by Diario Libre. The dentist Alfredo Ramirez says that he agrees with the idea from the Minister of the Armed Forces, Admiral Sigfrido Pared Perez when he said that the number of military troops will be increased to five thousand and they will be on patrol as long as is necessary.
Likewise, the community leader in Capotillo, Leoncio Santana, said that supposedly Dominicans have a right to live peacefully, so that he supports the decision to send the members of the Armed Forces to fight crime together with the National Police.
"We deserve to live in peace and the problem of security was not attended by the past administration because of political affairs and to face it now costs a lot of sacrifices," he pointed out.
In two weeks, in the sector of Capotillo there has not be any assaults, nor have there been any violent deaths, according to statistics shown by the Amigos Foundation. In the same manner, similar results were seen in Los Guandules, Guachupita, 27 de Febrero and other barrios that are listed in the National Public Safety Plan, put into effect last March, as very important.
