DN and nine provinces on green alert for rains
Santo Domingo. The National District (DN) and another nine provinces are on a green alert because of the possibility of flash flooding, overflowing rivers and streams as well as landslides, because of the heavy recent rains.
The provinces that are on alert are Monsignor Nouel, San Pedro de Macorís, Monte Plata, San Cristóbal, especially Villa Altagracia; Sánchez Ramírez, Azua, Santo Domingo, San José de Ocoa and Peravia.
According to information from the Center for Emergency Operations (COE) in yesterday's report, 20 houses were flooded in Villa Mella due to the rains that fell in the afternoon on Wednesday. The residents of these houses were taken to houses of friends and family, returning to their own homes a few hours later.
The COE recommends people to pay attention to the bulletins from the official relief agencies and for the residents in vulnerable areas to take precautions and to refrain from trying to cross rivers and streams that are at flood stage.
Forecast
In the meantime, the National Meteorological Office (Onamet) is reporting that the rainy conditions will continue in the Northeast, Southeast, Southwest, the Central Mountains and along the frontier.
The rains are caused by a low pressure trough over the country, combined with the dominant winds from the East that continue providing plenty of humidity to the atmosphere.
