Five dead in an accident in Santiago

SANTIAGO. Five persons died yesterday and several were injured when the pickup truck which was carrying them as passengers flipped over on the Yapur Dumit Avenue, near the Barranquita Sports Complex, in the southern part of the city.

According to Civil Defense personnel in the province of Santiago, the number of dead could increase because several of the injured suffered very serious trauma.

The victims are Marianelis Santana, Luis Rosario, and the couple Geteri Montan and Elvis Santana and a young person known as Chayanne.

The victims were travelling in the back of a white Toyota driven by Arismendi Santana who lost control of the vehicle and dumping the passengers onto the pavement.

The victims and part of the injured were taken to the Regional University Hospital Jose Maria Cabral y Baez and other to clinics in the city of Santiago.

The persons who were injured and killed lived in the Yagüita de Pastor barrio of Santiago and were coming back from the softball field located at La Barranquita where they were celebrating the triumph of their team.

The tragedy has cause a lot of sadness in the barrio, located in the southern part of Santiago.
