Green Alerts for seven provinces due to tropical wave
SANTO DOMINGO. The Center for Emergency Operations (COE) issued yesterday a green alert for seven provinces, as a precautionary measure due to the rains caused by the influence of a low pressure trough and tropical low pressure wave over the national territory today and tomorrow.
The provinces under the alert are San Pedro de Macoris, Monte Plata, San Cristobal, Sanchez Ramirez, Azua, Greater Santo Domingo, and Monsignor Nouel. The latter was already under an alert.
According to reports from the National Meteorological Office (Onamet), the cloud cover associated with a tropical wave located to the Southwest of the Dominican Republic and the contribution of humidity provided by a low pressure trough located over the Windward Channel will continue causing rain showers, electrical storms and occasional wind gusts.
Due to these conditions, a significant increase in the rains, principally in the Southeast, Southwest, Central Mountains and along the frontier is expected.
The COE warned those persons living in areas of high risk and that live next to rivers and streams in the provinces that were mentioned, to take precautionary measures and pay attention to the recommendations of the relief agencies.
In general, the population should refrain from crossing rivers and streams because many are carrying massive amounts of water.
