PRD calls for attention to Police reform

SANTO DOMINGO. The Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD) called on its deputies to study with great care the legislative proposal for the reformation of the National Police. The legislation was recently submitted to the National Congress by President Danilo Medina.

Miguel Vargas, the president and spokesman for the White Party, said that given the importance of the police reform, the PRD deputies should put all of their efforts in making the initiative establish the effective basis for a true reform of the body that is supposed to preserve order and safety for the people.

He explained that an effective police report is part of the initiatives to be taken by the state in order to guarantee public safety.

Vargas underlined the fact that crime and violence have become a problem that affects all areas of society, especially the tranquility of the families, the reservation of assets and properties, so it is expected that the police reform will contribute to the control of this situation.

The PRD president spoke at the swearing-in ceremony of about 2,000 municipal and national leaders of the rank and file that follow his political ends, led by the at-large Deputy Anibal Garcia Duverge.

Among the leaders of the mass fronts sworn in, the standouts are Tito Ramírez, Barrios and Communities; Hugo Bautista, Health; Hilario Jáquez, Teachers; Julio de Peña Musa, Professionals and Technicians; Onolia Colón, the Old Party Members; Fabio Ruiz, Unions; Cristian Castro and Joel Díaz, PRD Youth.
