The Supreme Court of Justice warns the Justice Department about case files with mistakes
Mariano Germán Mejía
SD. The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Justice, Mariano German Mejia, warned that the cases that are poorly prepared, the violations in the chain of possession of evidence, and the carelessness with the legality of the processes before these reach the judges, should not continue if they want to guarantee a true justice.

He argued that it is very easy to go out and complain that the judiciary is to blame for issuing sentences that do not always satisfy public opinion.

"It is our obligation to leave established that all the courts involved in the judicial service must necessarily take responsibility for their role."

Likewise, he revealed that recently he asked the Attorney General of the Republic, the National Police, and the National Directorate for Drug Control to establish the proper and prudent measures in order to present the cases with the least amount of mistakes.

He suggested that the proper administration of justice must respect the principle of the presumption of innocence which is a guarantee in order for the judicial processes be carried out in accordance to ethics and with transparency.

As he spoke during a meeting with the reporters that cover the judicial beat, he said that this state power is the last link of the justice process, and although he recognizes that there are weaknesses, he said that "we are reviewing with a lot of care the motivations of the sentences that create questions in society in order to find out if they acted in accordance with due process."

German Mejia said that in the findings of the Judicial Power they have found out that the majority of the sentences that judges issue are sufficient in themselves, and that in the cases where they have found anomalies they are going forward to go deeper into the investigations.

"My considerations do not go towards the search for who to blame, but rather that each one of those that participate in guarantee the social peace take on our respective responsibilities; we make sure that the work is carried out in a joint manner, since only like that can we offer justice with quality."

He stressed the obligation of leaving well established that all of the courts involved in the judicial service necessarily have carry out their roles in a responsible manner.
