The AMET suspends RD $500 charge for certificates

SANTO DOMINGO. The director of the Metropolitan Transport Authority (AMET) general Pablo Arturo Pujols, announced yesterday that he suspended the measure that orders a RD $500 charge to persons who request certified reports on traffic accidents in which the citizens are involved.
At the same time the AMET denied that this measure had been established during the present administration, and he added that the measure comes from years ago and is now under investigation in order to make clear its conformity with the Constitution of the Republic and the laws.
"We are suspending the RD $500 peso charge for the certificates of traffic accident reports that are prepared in the agency, as a result of traffic accidents in which citizens are involved, until we investigate its compliance with the Constitution of the Republic and the laws," noted the AMET director.
Nevertheless the AMET director did not make it clear where the money which had been collected from those drivers that went in search of a certificate which is required by the insurance companies for over three years has gone.
Nor has the AMET established the amount that it collected monthly or yearly for this "tax" created administratively under the management of former general José Anibal Sanz Jiminian.
Another measure
General Pablo Arturo Pujols ordered that the towing service that the AMET offers on the main roads be free of charge for the drivers that require for a vehicle that has suffered some sort of damage.
Pujols instructed his people to place tow trucks on the main avenues of the National District and Greater Santo Domingo, as well as the major commercial arteries, tunnels, and overpasses. The orders seeks to provide assistance without charge to the drivers those vehicles have breakdowns.
